Horses – eating our friends

June 9, 2009

Our friends and allies for years, first for food, then transportation, helping us win wars and conquer kingdoms, we owe horses a lot.  For they have toiled long and hard, willingly and unwillingly.

Now wars requiring horses are but a memory, but humans still love to do battle with each other – this time on the sports field.  Competition winners are rewarded with accolades and held in the highest esteem by others.

But what if the human’s accolades are not the same for the horse?  But worse, what if horses’ welfare is threatened at its most basic level… regardless of whether actions are considered deliberate abuse?

Stay tuned, as I explore this possibility in upcoming posts.
