Your interest in the idea of the 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare has encouraged me to post a few more photos. A starting point – would be the rules for equipment. It would seem that it is about time show jumping gear rules were reviewed.

Correctly fitting nosebands
Loosen off your horse’s noseband – you must be able to fit 2 fingers under it at least – no matter what ’style’ it is. He has to be able to move his lower jaw, and to chew gently (the old masters used to say ‘to murmur’).

Have you heard of the Five Freedoms? They were originally developed in England by the (then) Farm Animal Welfare Council (FAWC), and are fairly universally accepted as a desirable standard to achieve in domestic animal care (particularly in farm animal production).
